Sending a survey via URL

When you launch a survey, you can skip all installation steps and share the survey as a URL. A survey shared this way is called a link survey.

Sharing a survey via a public link

When you reach the Channel section while creating your survey, select Public Link, review your design, and copy the link.

Sharing the link is easy, but there are a few things to keep in mind.

You can share the URL with your customers through social media, WhatsApp, push notifications, or SMS. If you share it without any changes, every response appears in SatisMeter as Anonymous and without user traits.

The URL alone doesn't pass any user traits to SatisMeter.

This works well for anonymous surveys. If you want to follow up with customers, add basic user traits to the URL so you can identify each customer's response.

How you share the URL determines how you can pass user traits through it.

Sharing the URL in an email

Many email providers support template variables, though they may use a different name for them. Template variables are placeholders for personal user information, so you can personalize your URLs.

Add your provider's template variables as URL parameters at the end of the survey link, and start each one with an ampersand (&). For example, if your provider's variable for the user's name is {{NAME}}, add parameters like &userId={{USER_ID}}&email={{EMAIL}}&name={{NAME}}.

Your provider replaces each variable when it sends the email to users. For example, {{NAME}} becomes the user's name on the response in SatisMeter.

The survey link already contains some URL parameters (token=...&campaign=...). Leave these unchanged, because SatisMeter uses them to identify your survey.

To find your provider's template variables, check their documentation or contact their support team.

Sharing the URL on social media and other platforms

When you share the URL on social media or other platforms, the easiest way to add user traits is with query parameters.

You can add query parameters manually, but it's tedious. More often, a script or an automation tool adds them when it sends the surveys.

  • Add userId=xxx as a query parameter to the link. SatisMeter then uses the existing user profile we have for that userId.

    Example:

    https://app.satismeter.com/survey?token=000000&campaign=000000&userId=007
  • Add other query parameters that contain user traits. SatisMeter adds these traits to the response.

    Example:

    https://app.satismeter.com/surveytoken=00000&campaign=0000000&name=Alexia&plan=Enterprise
