Productboard and SatisMeter integration

Productboard is a product management platform for understanding user needs, prioritizing what to build next, aligning teams on the roadmap, and engaging with customers. The SatisMeter integration sends your survey responses to Productboard as feedback, so your product team can act on them there.

This article explains how to connect the two tools, how responses appear in Productboard, and how to keep the connection working. The integration is available on all Productboard and SatisMeter plans.

In this article:

How the integration works

Watch this video for an overview of the integration:

While your SatisMeter project is connected, SatisMeter adds survey responses to your Productboard workspace as feedback. Your product team can then process that feedback further, for example by linking it to the right feature or idea.

Surveys help answer questions that product teams face every day:

  • Validate feature ideas. Do your users need the feature you have in mind? Would it solve their problem or improve current solutions? How important is it to their success with your product?
  • Measure satisfaction with features. How happy are your customers with a recently released feature? Does it fit their needs or add value?
  • Collect open feedback. What do your users think is missing from your product? What would they change if they could?

Required permissions

To set up this integration, you need permissions in both tools:

  • In Productboard, be an admin (a maker with admin access).
  • In SatisMeter, be an admin or an editor of the project you want to connect.

For more about SatisMeter roles, see Logging in, verification, and roles.

Setting up the integration in Productboard

First, create an access token in Productboard. If you're a Productboard admin:

  1. Log in to your Productboard workspace.
  2. In your Productboard workspace, click Settings > Integrations. You can also open the Integrations settings directly.

  3. Scroll to the APIs section and click Access Token.
  4. On the Access Token page, click + Add Token in the top-right corner.
  5. Give the token a name for future reference, then copy the token.

Note: Copy the token before you leave the page. You can't copy it again after you leave and return.

Creating and configuring the integration in SatisMeter

Next, connect your SatisMeter project with the token. If you're an admin or an editor of the project:

  1. Log in to your SatisMeter account.
  2. In your SatisMeter project, go to Settings-1.svg Settings > Integrations > Productboard.

  3. Paste the token you copied from Productboard into the text box, and click Connect to Productboard.

If the token is correct, your project connects to the Productboard workspace. You can then configure which surveys send their responses to Productboard.

How responses appear in Productboard

While the project is connected, SatisMeter sends completed responses to Productboard as feedback. By default, it sends every completed response.

Feedback from the integration includes the name of the survey the response belongs to. In Productboard, you can filter feedback by survey or by the SatisMeter import source. For more information, see Filter the Insights board to find relevant feedback.

Note: You can also set up an automation rule that filters on the survey title and assigns the feedback to the survey owner. To learn how, see how to route and categorize feedback with insights automation.

Note: The integration doesn't limit the number of surveys or responses. You can connect as many surveys as you want to your Productboard workspace, and SatisMeter sends all their completed responses as feedback.

Checking the connection status

The integration depends on a working Productboard token. If the token stops working, SatisMeter can't deliver responses to Productboard.

Warning: If the Productboard token stops working, SatisMeter drops responses. It doesn't queue them or retry sending them later, so those responses never reach Productboard.

The only sign of a broken connection is a "not connected" status in the integration settings. You can find it in your SatisMeter project under Settings > Integrations > Productboard.

Check this status regularly, especially after people leave your team or tokens change. If the integration shows "not connected," follow the steps in Setting up the integration in Productboard and Creating and configuring the integration in SatisMeter to connect a working token.
