Testing the survey installation

As part of installation, we provide a way to check whether SatisMeter is installed correctly on your website or app. The check confirms whether SatisMeter receives data when someone opens the page or part of your app where the survey should show.

This check is available for every type of installation. Each section of the installation instructions explains how to run it.

Testing the survey installation

After you install the survey, open your web or mobile app and go to the page where you installed it. This is the page where you want users to see the survey. You might need to log in to your web or mobile app first.

Next, click the Check installation button in the installation instructions. You can find the instructions in Settings > Install or in the survey designer for any of your surveys.

When you click the button, we check whether we've received any data recently and show one of the following results.

If we didn't receive any data, you see this message:

If we received data, you see this message:

You're now ready to set your survey live and start collecting responses.

Developers' guide

SatisMeter shows surveys based on the rules in your targeting settings. During installation, you might want to bypass these rules to check that the code runs correctly and the survey looks good on a certain page.

To bypass the targeting rules on the web, add the previewCampaign property with the survey ID to the SatisMeter snippet. For example:

satismeter({
  writeKey: "ly8bRUzEA",
  userId: "1234",
  traits: {
    name: "John Doe",
    email: "john@doe.com",
    createdAt: "2017-01-28T13:10:26.255Z"
  },
  previewCampaign: "5bf3ec3c4f423900040e8136"
});

To find the survey ID, go to Settings > Integrations > API Keys. Select the survey you want to test, and SatisMeter displays its ID.

Troubleshooting

  • I tried several times, and I always get the "Failure" message. The cause depends on how you installed SatisMeter and how your web or mobile app is built. Make sure the part of your code that runs the SatisMeter or Segment snippet loads and executes correctly. If the check still fails, contact our support team. We'll help you install SatisMeter.

  • I changed my web or mobile app, and I'm not sure whether I broke the installation. The check is always available, so you can run it again at any time. Go to the installation instructions and click Check installation. The result turns red if we didn't receive any data in the last 24 hours.

  • I got the "Success" message, but I don't see the survey. This is expected, because the check confirms that SatisMeter is installed correctly even when the survey shouldn't appear. The survey doesn't show while it's in the Draft or Paused state, only when it's Live. Each survey also has Audience settings, which set the conditions a user must meet to see the survey. You might not meet those conditions. To force the survey to show so you can see how it looks live, follow the instructions in the developers' guide above. This works only for Live surveys.
