SatisMeter gives you two ways to get survey data out: the REST API and CSV export from the dashboard. The REST API returns lists of responses, dashboard statistics, and response statistics in JSON format. This article explains which key to use, how API paging works, and what to expect from a CSV export.
In this article:
Using the REST API
The REST API lets you fetch data at the project level and at the survey level. It covers all survey types, not only Net Promoter Score (NPS) surveys.
For endpoint details, step-by-step guides, and troubleshooting tips, see the SatisMeter API documentation.
Choosing the right key
New projects need an API key to use the REST API. Other project keys return a 403 error:
- The read key returns a 403 error on read requests.
- The write key returns a 403 error on the Users API.
Note: Your website snippet still uses the write key, so keep the write key in your snippet. Use the API key only for your REST API requests.
Paging and date ranges
The API returns 20 responses per page by default. You can request up to 100 responses per page. If you don't set a date range, the API returns responses from the last month.
Tip: If responses seem to be missing from your API results, check the page size and the date range of your request first.
Exporting responses to CSV
The CSV export has no row limit. It uses the dashboard's current date range and filters, so it includes only the responses that match them.
Example: If you filter the dashboard by Commented, the export includes only the responses that match that filter.
To export every response, clear the dashboard filters and set the date range you need before you export.
Understanding export columns
Rating questions export as columns named rating, rating_2, and so on. Every other question uses its question text as the column name.
Understanding time zones
Timestamps in exports and API results are in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). The dashboard shows times in your browser's time zone. As a result, a response submitted near midnight can appear under a different date in your export than on the dashboard.
